About the Role

At Deswik, we are not just building software—we are transforming how mines operate worldwide. As we transition our flagship products to the cloud, optimising our growing AWS footprint is crucial. We are looking for a collaborative and driven FinOps Engineer to join our operations group, reporting directly to the DevOps Team Lead.
This is a highly technical role with a 70% Engineering and 30% Finance split. It is designed for someone who loves getting hands-on with AWS infrastructure but also understands the commercial realities of cloud computing. You will act as the technical executor for cost-reduction strategies while partnering closely with our Finance team to ensure cloud spend is predictable, correctly allocated, and factored into our SaaS pricing models.
What You Will Do
  • Actively identify and execute infrastructure rightsizing, storage tiering downgrades, and migrations to more cost-effective instance families like Graviton.
  • Write and maintain scripts and code to automate resource scheduling, orphan resource cleanup, and custom billing alerts.
  • Implement and enforce strict AWS resource tagging policies via Infrastructure as Code to ensure granular visibility into product-level costs.
  • Extract and analyse data from the AWS Cost and Usage Report to help the Finance team with month-end close processes, cloud spend accruals, and variance analysis.
  • Manage our commercial savings mechanisms, including Savings Plans and Reserved Instances, and assist in building pricing models to help transition from desktop licensing to SaaS consumption models.
  • Develop chargeback and showback dashboards to allocate AWS costs accurately across different Deswik product lines, giving the business visibility into unit economics.
  • Act as the translator between DevOps, Engineering, and Finance, ensuring technical architecture reviews consider unit costs and ROI.

What You Bring

  • Proven experience as a Cloud Engineer, DevOps Engineer, or Technical FinOps practitioner, specifically within an AWS environment.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills, such as Python or Bash, and experience with Infrastructure as Code, like Terraform or CDK.
  • Deep technical familiarity with AWS architecture, including EC2 instance families, S3 lifecycle policies, RDS, and serverless compute.
  • Experience querying and extracting insights from large datasets, specifically the AWS Cost and Usage Report.
  • A solid understanding of basic corporate finance concepts, including budgeting, accruals, and gross margins, and the ability to communicate technical metrics to non-technical financial stakeholders.
  • Experience building or contributing to SaaS pricing models based on underlying cloud infrastructure costs is highly desirable.
  • Relevant cloud certifications, such as AWS Solutions Architect or SysOps Administrator, or FinOps Certified Practitioner status.

Why You’ll Love It Here

  • Modern Tech Stack: You will be working with AWS, Infrastructure as Code, and AI agents—not stuck supporting legacy on-prem systems forever.
  • Engineering Culture: We value technical skills. If you want get AWS certified, we support that.
  • Hybrid Flexibility3 days in-office, 2 days WFH for balance and focus
  • Wellbeing Support: Access to our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for confidential support
  • Inclusive Culture: Collaborative, low-ego, and engineering-led environment
  • Zoot Learning Academy: Access to our online learning platform
  • Paid Parental Leave: Company-funded support for growing families
