Shape

the Future of Mining with Deswik
We're building our Microsoft Fabric lakehouse from the ground up, and we need a hands-on Analytics Engineer to make it happen. You'll architect data pipelines, design our analytics infrastructure, and become our technical expert in Fabric and Power BI. If you want to shape how a global mining software company works with data—not just maintain what's already there—this is your opportunity.

Reporting to the Senior Business Data Lead, you will build and own our Microsoft Fabric lakehouse, managing everything from data ingestion pipelines and notebooks to semantic models and trusted datasets that drive business decisions. You’ll partner closely with stakeholders to deliver end-to-end data products — from building robust data transformation pipelines and semantic models to developing polished Power BI reporting apps. You’ll also apply best-in-class engineering practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, documentation, and monitoring, to ensure each solution is scalable and well-governed. Your work will ensure that the platform remains reliable, sustainable, and ready to support continuous improvement and innovation in data workflow

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Design and maintain data pipelines in Microsoft Fabric (Data Factory, Dataflows Gen2, Notebooks, Spark).
  • Optimise lakehouse architecture (bronze/silver/gold) and manage Delta/Parquet storage formats.
  • Build scalable Power BI semantic models and datasets with advanced DAX.
  • Implement automated data quality checks and observability across pipelines.
  • Develop modular notebooks for data wrangling using Python/PySpark.
  • Apply performance tuning for pipelines, tables, and Power BI datasets.
  • Translate business needs into trusted data products and dashboards.
  • Collaborate with IT on security, governance, and access control.
  • Establish CI/CD for analytics using Git and deployment pipelines.
  • Champion data governance, cataloguing, and documentation standards.
  • Monitor costs and optimise pipelines for efficiency and SLAs.
  • Stay ahead of new Fabric features and lead adoption initiatives.

What You’ll Bring

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Business Analytics, Data Science, Statistics, or Mathematics.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in both data engineering and analytics within a medium–large organization
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric (or Azure Synapse + Power BI + Data Lake, with willingness to cross over), strong SQL development and optimization skills, proficiency in Power BI (semantic modeling, DAX, and report development), notebook-based coding in Python/PySpark, and a solid understanding of data governance practices including lineage, cataloging, security, and role-based access
  • Effective communication skills with English fluency and the ability to collaborate across technical and business teams.
  • A customer-first approach -providing responsive support, driving adoption of data products through clear documentation and enablement, and maintaining transparency with release notes and versioning.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement -measuring service performance, prioritising fixes that reduce friction, and staying ahead of new Microsoft Fabric features to guide adoption and innovation
