About the Role

At Deswik, we are not just building software—we are transforming how mines operate worldwide. As we transition our flagship products to the cloud, optimising and managing the financial aspects of our growing AWS footprint is crucial. We are seeking a hybrid technical-commercial professional to take ownership of our cloud spend. You will be responsible for ensuring cost-effectiveness across our infrastructure while helping the business define profitability and pricing models for our new cloud applications. This role requires a balance of technical understanding to identify infrastructure waste and commercial acumen to structure our software pricing. Why Deswik:
  • Global impact: our software helps mines plan and operate more efficiently worldwide.
  • The timing is real: we’re in the middle of a cloud transition, so you’ll shape how cloud economics works here from the ground up.
  • High leverage: your work directly influences product margin, pricing strategy, and how engineering builds.
  • Cross-functional seat at the table: you’ll partner with Engineering, Finance, Product, and leadership – this isn’t a “reporting-only” FinOps role.

What You’ll Do

  • Analyse cloud consumption trends across our AWS environment to detect anomalies, investigate cost spikes, and implement remediation strategies.
  • Manage and optimise commercial savings mechanisms, including Savings Plans and Reserved Instances, to ensure maximum coverage as our cloud usage grows.
  • Identify technical opportunities for cost reduction, such as rightsizing overprovisioned instances or migrating workloads to more efficient instance families like Graviton.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive pricing models for Deswik’s cloud applications, helping the business transition from desktop licensing to sustainable SaaS pricing structures.
  • Lead proactive cost-saving initiatives and projects, researching new AWS features or architectural changes that drive long-term financial efficiency.
  • Partner with engineering teams to drive a culture of cost-conscious building, ensuring that cloud architecture reviews consider unit economics and ROI.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting frameworks to provide executive leadership with visibility into cloud spend, forecasts, and unit economics.
  • Monitor cloud usage against budgets and alert stakeholders to potential overruns before they become critical issues.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience in a technical or financial role.
  • Proven experience in Cloud Financial Management (FinOps) specifically within an AWS environment.
  • Strong ability to build commercial pricing models and pricing sheets for software products, specifically in a SaaS or cloud consumption context.
  • Technical familiarity with cloud computing principles, including knowledge of AWS instance families, storage tiers, and architectural patterns.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to extract insights from large billing datasets and present them to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills to broker value-based outcomes between Finance, Engineering, and Executive teams.
  • A proactive mindset with the ability to identify "unknown" cost-saving opportunities and drive them as internal projects.
  • Relevant cloud certifications (AWS Cloud Practitioner/Solutions Architect) or FinOps Certified Practitioner status is desirable.

Why You’ll Love It Here

Your work will matter. You will help shape the future of mining while enjoying a culture built on trust, collaboration, and technical excellence. We thrive on innovation, empowering you to experiment, challenge convention, and help redefine what’s possible in our industry. We offer flexibility with a hybrid schedule—two days working from home and three in our Brisbane office office—plus competitive pay, bonus, mentoring, and plenty of perks to support your growth and well-being.
